Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up seven cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s January 6 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.57 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is 1 cent below the national average of $2.58. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 15 cents lower at $2.42 per gallon.

“Crude oil prices are moving higher following the death of Iran’s top military leader, and was to be expected,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs. “The long-term impact to consumers at the pump will be dependent on how expensive crude oil prices become and the duration of any increase.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 34 cents, from a low of $2.45 to a high of $2.79. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Please remember to slow down and move over for any emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
