Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down one cent this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s January 20 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.56 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is 2 cents above the national average of $2.54. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 20 cents lower at $2.36 per gallon.

“Growing supplies – amid lower demand – have eased pump prices throughout the country,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs. “The current rate of demand is in line with this time last January, a period that typically brings lower demand due to winter weather.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 38 cents, from a low of $2.41 to a high of $2.79. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Please remember to slow down and move over for any emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
