Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down seven cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s March 16 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.29 per gallon. Massachusetts’s price is four cents above the national average of $2.25. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was 15 cents higher at $2.44 per gallon.

“Pump prices are declining significantly as the global economy faces downward pressure from COVID-19 fears and the ongoing crude price war between Russia and OPEC nations,” said Mary Maguire, Director, Public and Legislative Affairs. “Consumers can expect to see continued savings as the industry factors in a fully 50% decrease in the price of a barrel of oil since mid-January.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 70 cents, from a low of $1.99 to a high of $2.69. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Please remember to slow down and move over for any emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
