Wayne, N.J., June 29, 2020 — New Jersey’s average gas price rose four cents from last week to today’s average of $2.16 ($2.09). Today’s price is 14 cents more expensive than a month ago ($2.02) and 63 cents cheaper than June 29, 2019 ($2.79). New Jersey’s average gas price is one cent cheaper than the national average.
AAA Northeast’s June 29th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $2.17, up four cents from last week ($2.13). Today’s national average price is 20 cents more than a month ago ($1.97), and 54 cents cheaper than this day last year ($2.71).
“While overall travel projections are down, those who head out for July 4th and beyond are expected to drive to their destinations,” said Robert Sinclair, Manager of Media Relations for AAA Northeast. “This increased demand is leading to higher gas prices, though motorists will still pay much less than they did a year ago.”
The average gas price is up in neighboring states as well. The average price for a gallon of gas in Connecticut is $2.16, up five cents from last week ($2.11). New York drivers are paying $2.24, two cents more than a week ago ($2.22). In Pennsylvania, motorists are paying an average of $2.43, up seven cents from a week ago ($2.36). Hawaii has the highest average for a gallon of gas, at $3.18/gallon, while Mississippi has the cheapest at $1.82.
