Wayne, N.J., July 6, 2020 — New Jersey’s average gas price remained unchanged this week, holding steady at $2.16. Today’s price is 12 cents more expensive than a month ago ($2.04) and 65 cents cheaper than July 6, 2020 ($2.81). New Jersey’s average gas price is two cents cheaper than the national average.
AAA Northeast’s July 6th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $2.18, up one cent from last week ($2.17). Today’s national average price is 17 cents more than a month ago ($2.01), and 57 cents cheaper than this day last year ($2.75).
A slight drop in demand amid an increase in supplies comes as many states report increases in COVID-19 cases, potentially causing Americans to reconsider outings. However, for motorists who hit the road for the Independence Day holiday, gas prices were a welcome sight.
“Independence Day weekend gas prices were nearly 60 cents cheaper than last year and on top of that, they were the most inexpensive prices seen for the holiday since 2004,” said Robert Sinclair, Manager of Media Relations for AAA Northeast.
The average gas price remained unchanged in neighboring states as well – $2.16 in Connecticut, $2.24 in New York and $2.43 in Pennsylvania. Hawaii has the highest average for a gallon of gas, at $3.20/gallon, while Mississippi has the cheapest at $1.82/gallon.
