Wayne, N.J., October 13, 2020 — New Jersey’s average gas price increased by one cent this week to $2.24 this week ($2.23). Today’s price is three cents more expensive than a month ago ($2.21) and 30 cents cheaper than October 13, 2019 ($2.54). New Jersey’s average gas price is six cents higher than the national average.
AAA Northeast’s October 13th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $2.18, the same as one week ago. Today’s national average price is one cent cheaper than a month ago ($2.19), and 45 cents cheaper than this day last year ($2.63).
“In a typical year, a hurricane season like we’ve experienced this year would have caused gas prices to spike, but 2020 is not a typical year,” said Robert Sinclair, Senior Manager of Media Relations for AAA Northeast. “Low U.S. gasoline demand has helped contain any impact to gas prices locally and regionally throughout this hurricane season.”
Average gas prices didn’t move the needle much around the region. The average gas price in Connecticut and New York held steady from a week ago at $2.17 and $2.25, respectively. Pennsylvania motorists are paying an average of $2.49, up one cent from last week ($2.48). Hawaii has the highest average for a gallon of gas, at $3.26/gallon, while Mississippi has the lowest at $1.85/gallon.
