Finally! There’s movement in gas prices and the news is good for drivers!
After nearly four weeks of steady gas prices, national and statewide averages both have declined by at least a penny.
Today, Connecticut average prices for a gallon of self-serve regular is $2.17, a penny less than last week. Prices also are 50 cents lower compared to this time last year.
On the National level, there’s a similar scenario: average prices also hit $2.17, but 2 cents lower than last week. Prices also are 48 cents lower than last year.
“Decreases in demand, supply, crude prices and imports are pushing National and Connecticut gas prices cheaper,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “In fact, the Nutmeg State is one of 44 states that has seen lower prices.”
As market concerns rise and more social restrictions are introduced because of an increase in worldwide coronavirus infections, prices are expected to drop in coming weeks.
Here is AAA’s weekly price survey of Connecticut’s six metro regions:
Greater Bridgeport $2.24 Lower Fairfield County: $2.24
New Haven/Meriden $2.15 Greater Hartford $2.14
New London/Norwich $2.18 Windham/Middlesex $2.22
Statewide Average: $2.17
Today, Mississippi and Missouri register the lowest prices in the nation, both at $1.85, followed by Texas at $1.86. Hawaii and California continue to hold the highest prices in the nation at $3.24 and $3.20. respectively. Connecticut moved to the 21st spot on the list of states with the highest gas prices in the nation. Average gas prices may be obtained daily through www.gasprices.aaa.com.
