As domestic demand drops and supplies increase, Connecticut average gas prices continue their descent, said AAA Northeast.
Today, Connecticut’s statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular at $2.13 is down 2 cent prices from last week. Compared to last year, prices are 54 cents lower.
On the national level, average prices are $2.11, 2 cents less than last week and 51 cents lower than last year.
Only 4 states – mainly in the Midwest – are seeing gas price increases; while nearly 20 others start the week with averages at least 3 cents cheaper than last Monday, said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman.
“There’s not much difference on the statewide and national gas scenes compared to previous weeks as spreading Covid infections and see-sawing crude oil prices also contribute to lower prices at the pump,” she said.
Some states have increased their travel restrictions and rolled back reopening processes, which in turn is weakening national demand, Mayko added.
Here is AAA’s weekly price survey of Connecticut’s six metro regions:
Greater Bridgeport $2.21 Lower Fairfield County: $2.21
New Haven/Meriden $2.11 Greater Hartford $2.09
New London/Norwich $2.14 Windham/Middlesex $2.17
Statewide Average: $2.13
Today, Missouri and Texas register the lowest prices in the nation with $1.76 and $1.78, respectively. Hawaii and California continue to hold the highest prices in the nation at $3.24 and $3.18. respectively. Connecticut remains at the 20th spot on the list of states with the highest gas prices in the nation. Average gas prices may be obtained daily through www.gasprices.aaa.com.
