Westwood, MA, February 22, 2021 — Massachusetts’s average gas price is up nine cents from last week ($2.47), averaging $2.56 per gallon. Today’s price is 20 cents higher than a month ago ($2.36), and 7 cents higher than February 22, 2020 ($2.49). Massachusetts’s average gas price is 7 cents lower than the national average.
“When close to 40% of U.S. crude production is offline because refineries are closed, there is going to be pain at the pump until operations resume,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Director of Public and Government Affairs. “The good news is the nearly two dozen impacted refiners are expected to restart operations this week, if they haven’t already.”
AAA Northeast’s February 22 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 13 cents higher than last week ($2.50), averaging $2.63 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 24 cents higher than a month ago ($2.39), and 16 cents higher than this day last year ($2.47).
