As 2021 enters its third month, gas prices on the statewide and national levels continue to climb.
Compared to last week, Connecticut’s average gas price of $2.75 for a gallon of self-serve, regular increased 7 cents, while on the national level, today’s $2.72 price rose 8 cents.
Since the beginning of the year, drivers have seen a 47-cent increase on both the state and national levels, said AAA Northeast.
Higher crude prices, offline refineries, and market-wide optimism about the release of a third Covid vaccine continue to drive price increases.
The national gas price average expects to reach at least $2.80 in March, said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “For drivers, that means potential increases of at least 5 to 10 cents in local markets until refinery operations are stable,” she added. “Barring hurricane season, March may bring the most expensive pump prices of 2021.”
