To buy or not to buy? That is the question.
For nearly a third of US travelers, however, the answer is clear, especially when it comes to buying travel insurance. In fact, a AAA survey reports 31% of vacationers say they’re most likely buy travel coverage for their next trip because of Covid-19, says AAA Northeast.
“In this brave new world of travel,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “Buying such coverage is a small price to pay for peace of mind and travel protection in the wake of the pandemic.”
With the help of a trusted, knowledgeable travel adviser, vacationers should consider flexible policies that include a “cancel-for-any-reason” component to protect your travel investment, advises AAA Northeast.
Historically, travel insurance policies have not covered epidemics or pandemics. However, Covid-19 has changed that, and some providers have now introduced plans to cover such cases, said Mayko. “Shifting consumer demands have altered travel expectations and the way Americans now plan their trips,” she said.
Consider this, said Mayko: More than half (55%) of American adults are planning a vacation involving at least one overnight stay before the end of 2022. “So, it’s wise to investigate your travel insurance options with the help of an agent,” she added. “Options vary greatly, and a knowledgeable travel adviser can help you navigate through those complexities,” said Mayko.
Travelers have always looked for travel insurance policies that protect against trip cancellations and interruptions. In the wake of Covid, however, travelers have stepped up their demands and are looking for coverage of change fees, delays, lost/damaged luggage, and unexpected medical costs.
The same AAA survey found six in 10 Americans see a benefit in working with a travel advisor because they save travel time and planning; help navigate complicated travel requirements, sort through insurance options, cancellation policies and Covid restrictions; and identify the best available deals, they reported.
