Utica, NY, December 13, 2021 — New York’s average gas price is down 2 cents from last week ($3.54), averaging $3.52 per gallon. Today’s price is 4 cents lower than a month ago ($3.56), and $1.27 higher than December 13, 2020 ($2.25). New York’s average gas price is 19 cents higher than the national average.
“Gas prices tend to fall a bit this time of year due to the shorter days and less robust demand,” says Patti Artessa, Regional Director of Public/Government Affairs. “And this trend was assisted by the recent steep drop in oil prices due to fears over the omicron variant. But the variant’s impact on pricing appears to be fading, so it remains to be seen if oil prices stabilize or move higher.”
AAA Northeast’s December 13 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 2 cents lower than last week ($3.35), averaging $3.33 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 8 cents lower than a month ago ($3.41), and $1.17 higher than this day last year ($2.16).
