Wayne, N.J., February 14, 2022 — New Jersey’s average gas price is up nine cents from last week, averaging $3.59 per gallon ($3.50). Today’s price is 22 cents higher than a month ago ($3.37), and 93 cents higher than February 14, 2021 ($2.66). New Jersey’s average gas price is 11 cents higher than the national average.
The national average price for a gallon of gas rose four cents this week to $3.48 ($3.44. The main culprit behind the recent climb in pump prices remains the high cost of crude oil, which is stubbornly bobbing around $90 per barrel. Moderating winter weather and optimism over a potential fading of the omicron variant have led to an increase in gas demand.
“More drivers fueling up here coupled with a persistent tight supply of oil worldwide provides the recipe for higher prices at the pump,” says Robert Sinclair Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “And unfortunately for consumers, it does not appear that this trend will change anytime soon.”
Drivers in regional states aren’t getting a reprieve either. The average gas price increased five cents in Connecticut to $3.62 ($3.57), seven cents in Pennsylvania to $3.68 ($3.61), and 10 cents in New York to $3.68 ($3.58).
