Utica, NY, February 14, 2022 — New York’s average gas price is up 10 cents from last week ($3.58), averaging $3.68 per gallon. Today’s price is 20 cents higher than a month ago ($3.48), and $1.09 higher than February 14, 2021 ($2.59). New York’s average gas price is 20 cents higher than the national average.
The national average price for a gallon of gas rose sharply later last week to $3.48, four cents more than a week ago. The main culprit behind the recent climb in pump prices remains the high cost of crude oil, which is stubbornly bobbing around $90 per barrel. Moderating winter weather and optimism over a potential fading of the omicron variant have led to an increase in gas demand.
“More drivers fueling up here coupled with a persistent tight supply of oil worldwide provides the recipe for higher prices at the pump,” says Patti Artessa, Regional Director of Public/Government Affairs. “And unfortunately for consumers, it does not appear that this trend will change anytime soon.”
AAA Northeast’s February 14 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 4 cents higher than last week ($3.44), averaging $3.48 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 18 cents higher a month ago ($3.30), and 98 cents higher than this day last year ($2.50).
