Wayne, N.J., April 11, 2022 — New Jersey’s average gas price dropped eight cents this week to $4.08 ($4.16). Today’s average price is down 29 cents from a month ago ($4.37), but it’s still $1.19 higher than April 11, 2021. New Jersey’s average price is three cents less than the National average.
The national average price for a gallon of gas is down seven cents this week to $4.11 ($4.18), which is 22 cents cheaper than a month ago ($4.44), and $1.25 higher than this date in 2021 ($2.86).
The cost of gasoline has continued to slide due to falling oil prices. The global oil market has seen lower prices since the U.S. and its allies agreed to significant releases of oil reserves. Also weighing down oil prices is the fear of resurgent COVID-19 infections in China and its potential for an economic slowdown in one of the world’s largest oil-consuming nations.
“The average price for a gallon of gas has fallen near or below $4 in much of the country,” says Robert Sinclair Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “And these lower prices may be a boon to drivers hitting the road more as warmer weather returns.”
Average gas prices continued to fall around the region as well – drivers in Connecticut continue to enjoy the gas tax holiday, with prices averaging $3.92 this week, down 11 cents from last week ($4.03). New York drivers are paying an average of $4.22, down seven cents from last week ($4.29), and Pennsylvania drivers are paying six cents less than week at $4.21 ($4.27).
