Now that the Easter holiday is over, here’s something to digest: today’s gas prices in Connecticut and on the national level have dropped 2 cents compared to last week, says AAA Northeast.
The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular in The Nutmeg State today is $3.90, while nationally, it’s $4.09.
“These lower pump prices may be temporary, however, if the global price of oil increases,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “If oil prices remain near the $100-a-barrel mark, pump prices will most likely fall.”
However, other factors, such as higher demand and limited supplies, are causing crude prices to creep above the $100 a barrel mark. “As more US cities see pump prices drop below $4, demand will most likely increase just in time for the summer drive season,” Mayko added.
Here is AAA’s weekly price survey of Connecticut’s six metro regions:
Greater Bridgeport $3.98 Lower Fairfield County $3.97
New Haven/Meriden $3.89 Greater Hartford $3.86
New London/Norwich $3.94 Windham/Middlesex $3.90
Statewide Average: $3.90
Today, Kansas and Missouri register the lowest prices in the nation at $3.66 and $3.67, respectively. California and Hawaii hold the highest prices in the nation at $5.71 and $5.23, respectively. Connecticut moved one spot down, to the 31st on the list of states with the highest gas prices in the nation. Visit www.gasprices.aaa.com for daily average gas prices.
