Wayne, N.J., June 21, 2022 — The average price for a gallon of gas in New Jersey has dipped below $5 a gallon to today’s price of $4.97. The average price had been above $5 since June 7, when it was $5.01 per gallon. Today’s average price is down eight cents since last week ($5.05), but still 20 cents higher than a month ago ($4.77) and $1.90 cents higher than June 21, 2021 ($3.07). The statewide average is one cent higher than the national average.
The national average price for a gallon of gas is down five cents this week to $4.96 ($5.01). The national average price is 37 cents higher than a month ago ($4.59) and $1.89 more than a this time last year ($3.07).
“Demand for gasoline has declined, perhaps in response to record-breaking high gas prices – and that has helped pushed down prices at the pump,” said Robert Sinclair, Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “This dip in demand, coupled with a drop in oil prices, has taken some of the steam out of surging gasoline prices. But consumers are still paying historically high gas prices.”
Average gas prices dropped slightly around the region as well – the average price in Connecticut is $4.93, down five cents were up around the region as well – the average price in Connecticut and Pennsylvania dropped five cents to $4.93 and $5.01, respectively ($4.98 and $5.06). In New York, drivers are paying $5.00, four cents less than a week ago ($5.04).
