Listen! That clinking, clanking sound you hear when you drive isn’t from your engine; it’s the extra change jingling in your pocket from declining gas prices, says AAA Northeast.
Today, the average price for a gallon of self-serve, regular in Connecticut is $4.02, down 10 cents from last week and down 42 cents from last month.
On the national level, today’s $3.90 average is 6 cents lower than last week and 52 cents lower than last month.
“Because of stable crude oil prices and modest demand, drivers are now benefitting from gas prices that are at $1.11 less than their national peak in mid-June,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman.
Crude prices, the driving force of prices at the pump, have settled around the $91 a barrel mark in recent weeks, she said. “Couple these stable prices with changing lifestyle habits that include driving less, and we’re seeing drops at the pump,” added Mayko. “If oil prices continue to edge lower, we’ll likely to see additional price drops and in Connecticut, that means our average prices most likely will fall under $4 a gallon.”
