Wayne, N.J., September 6, 2022 — The average price for a gallon of gas in New Jersey dropped 12 cents from last week to today’s price of $3.81 ($3.93). The average price in the Garden State is 50 cents cheaper than a month ago ($4.31), but still 60 cents more than this day a year ago ($3.21).
New Jersey’s average gas price is four cents higher than the national average, which is $3.77, down 7 cents from last week ($3.84). The national average is down 31 cents since last month ($4.08), but remains 59 cents higher than on September 6, 2021 ($3.18).
“According to weather analysts, it’s the first time in 25 years that a named Atlantic storm did not develop in August. That’s the good news,” said Robert Sinclair Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “But we still have another month of peak hurricane season, and these storms can affect gas prices by disrupting oil production and refining.”
Gas prices in surrounding states are down as well. Connecticut drivers are paying $3.72, down six cents from last week ($3.86). The average price in Pennsylvania is $3.98, down 14 cents from a week ago ($4.12). And New York motorists are paying $4.00, down 12 cents from one week ago ($4.12).
