Wayne, N.J., October 24, 2022 — New Jersey drivers are paying a little less for gas this week, as the statewide gas price average has dropped two cents to today’s average price of $3.67 ($3.69). Today’s price is 16 cents higher than a month ago ($3.51), and 23 cents higher than a year ago ($3.44). New Jersey’s average gas price is 12 cents cheaper than the national average.
Nationally, the average price of gas is $3.79, down nine cents from a week ago ($3.88), but still nine cents higher than a month ago ($3.70). Last year this time, motorists were paying $3.38 for a gallon of gas. The average gas price has dropped daily since October 11, primarily due to lower oil prices and fewer drivers than usual fueling up.
“Global recession fears coupled with the Biden Administration’s plan to continue tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve into December has helped temper oil prices,” said Robert Sinclair Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “This will help take the pressure off pump prices, benefitting drivers and their wallets.”
Gas prices didn’t move the needle much in surrounding states either. The price held steady in Connecticut and New York at $3.48 and $3.67, respectively. Pennsylvania drivers saw a modest three-cent decline to $3.92 ($3.95).
