As Valentine’s Day approaches, Connecticut drivers are in love with the fact that statewide and national gas prices continue to drop.
Today’s Connecticut average price for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.32, 2 cents lower than last week, and 30 cents lower than last year.
On the national level, today’s $3.42 average is 5 cents lower than last week and 7 cents lower than last year.
“As we head toward Valentine’s Day, drivers may have a little more in their wallets, and if gas demand and oil costs remain low, drivers will most likely see pump prices drop through next week,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman.
Lower demand and crude prices are contributing factors to lower pump prices, she said.
Here is AAA’s weekly price survey of Connecticut’s six metro regions:
Greater Bridgeport $3.38 Lower Fairfield County $3.34
New Haven/Meriden $3.30 Greater Hartford $3.28
New London/Norwich $3.32 Windham/Middlesex $3.38
Statewide Average: $3.32
Today, Texas registers the lowest prices in the nation at $2.99, followed by Mississippi at $3.06. Hawaii and California have the highest gas prices at $4.89 and $4.65, respectively. Connecticut holds the 26th spot on the list of highest gas prices in the nation. Average gas prices may be obtained daily through www.gasprices.aaa.com.
