Wayne, N.J., February 20, 2023 — The average price for a gallon of gas in New Jersey is $3.27, dropping six cents since last week ($3.33). New Jersey’s average gas price has now fallen 22 straight days. Today’s price is five cents cheaper than a month ago ($3.32), and 34 cents less than last this day last year ($3.61).
AAA Northeast’s February 20th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $3.41, unchanged from a week ago. The national average price is two cents higher than a month ago ($3.39), but 12 cents cheaper than a year ago ($3.53).
The U.S. is awash in crude oil with inventories building by 16 million barrels last week. This will put downward pressure on prices overall. Even as refineries are shutting down for planned and unplanned maintenance, it has not contributed to a tighter market so far.
Drivers in surrounding states are seeing lower prices at the pump as well. The average declined two cents in Connecticut to $3.29 ($3.31); three cents in New York to $3.48 ($3.51); and four cents in Pennsylvania to $3.68 ($3.72).
