Higher inventories, lower crude prices and dipping demand are pushing state and national gas price averages downward, says AAA Northeast.
Today’s Connecticut average price for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.30, 2 cents lower than last week, and 37 cents lower than last year.
On the national level, today’s $3.41 average is also a penny lower than last week and 12 cents lower than last year.
Crude oil prices and demand continues to dip while supplies increase. If demand remains low, drivers may see only moderate price increases at the pump.
“The statewide and national averages have been hovering around the $3.32 and $3. 42 marks, respectively since last week, because the US is awash in crude oil,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “This trend could very well persist this week and if crude prices and demand continue to fall while supplies increase, we’ll most likely continue to see lower pump prices.”
Here is AAA’s weekly price survey of Connecticut’s six metro regions:

New Haven/Meriden $3.28 Greater Hartford $3.26
New London/Norwich $3.29 Windham/Middlesex $3.36

Today, Texas registers the lowest prices in the nation at $3, followed by Mississippi at $3.01. Hawaii and California continue to hold the highest prices in the nation at $4.87 and $4.73, respectively. Connecticut holds the 27th spot on the list of highest gas prices in the nation.
