Wayne, N.J., April 3, 2023 — After a five-cent drop last week, New Jersey’s average gas price hit “reverse” and increased five cents to today’s average of $3.26 ($3.21). Today’s average price is six cents more than a month ago ($3.20), and 90 cents cheaper than April 3, 2022 ($4.16).
AAA Northeast’s April 3rd survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $3.50, up seven cents from last week ($3.43). The national average price is 11 cents higher than a month ago ($3.39) and 69 cents less than a year ago ($4.19).
“Oil prices finally crested and have now settled above the $70 per barrel mark after weeks of hovering just below it,” said Robert Sinclair Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “And gas demand is very robust. These two factors will cause drivers to see prices increase for now. We will also be watching closely to see how much oil production cuts by OPEC nations will impact oil and gas prices.”
The average gas price increased in all surrounding states. Average pump prices increased by five cents in New York to $3.47 ($3.42); four cents in Connecticut to $3.29 ($3.25); and two cents in Pennsylvania to $3.57 ($3.55).
