Compared to last year, statewide gas prices are 76 cents lower, a trend also reflected on the national level, because of lower demand and higher supplies, says AAA Northeast.
Today’s statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.55, 3 cents lower than last week. On the national level, today’s $3.54 average is 7 cents less than last week and 78 cents less than last year.
“Pump prices continue to drop because of the volatility of the oil market, lower demand and higher inventories,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “Because we’re on the brink of the summer driving season, prices are expected to increase as demand increases over the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.”
