Like rush-hour traffic, statewide and national average gas prices are slowly declining, because of lower demand and declining crude prices, says AAA Northeast.
Today’s statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.64, a penny lower than last week and $1.23 lower than last year.
On the national level, today’s $3.55 average is 3 cents lower than last week and $1.30 less than last year.
“Although millions hit the road over the long holiday, both the national and statewide gas averages are slowly dropping,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “Lower demand and dropping crude costs are capping increases at the pump.”
“As the start of summer approaches, pump prices could dip further if gas demand and crude oil prices continue to decline,” she added.
