If Connecticut drivers could fill their tanks with a Cyber Monday online deal today, they’d find that average gas prices in The Nutmeg State are down 6 cents compared to last week, says AAA Northeast.
National average gas price ‘deals’ are even better: prices are down 11 cents compared to last week in what is the steepest weekly decline since early August.
Today, the statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.65, 6 cents lower than last week; while nationally, today’s average price of $3.55 is 11 cents lower than last week. Compared to a year ago, Connecticut and national prices are 9 cents and 16 cents higher, respectively.
“Even though prices are still high compared to this time last year, they continue to drop because of lower crude prices, lower demand, higher inventories and fears of a global economic slowdown with some of the largest decreases occurring on the West Coast,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman.
Demand data comes from the week ending November 18, prior to the Thanksgiving holiday when fewer drivers fueled up. “If demand remains low and supplies increase, drivers will likely see pump prices continue to fall,” said Mayko.
