Wayne, N.J., March 20, 2023 — The average price for a gallon of gas in New Jersey dropped five cents from last week to $3.26 ($3.31). Today’s average price is one cent cheaper than a month ago ($3.27), and 96 cents cheaper than March 20, 2022 ($4.22).
AAA Northeast’s March 20th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $3.44, down three cents from a week ago ($3.47). The national average price is three cents higher than a month ago ($3.3.41) and 81 cents less than a year ago ($4.25).
“The global oil price has plunged to around $65 per barrel, a level not seen since December of 2021. Given that the cost of oil accounts for 55% of what we pay for gas, it’s not surprising to see prices drop at the pump,” said Robert Sinclair, Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast.
Three was the magic number in all surrounding states, with the average gas price dropping three cents in Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania to $3.28, $3.43 and $3.59, respectively ($3.31, $3.46, $3.62).
