Wayne, N.J., May 8, 2023 — New Jersey’s average gas price dropped six cents this week to $3.42 ($3.48). Today’s average price is still five cents higher than last month, but just over a dollar less than drivers were paying this time last year ($4.45).
AAA Northeast’s May 8th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $3.53, down eight cents from last week ($3.61). The national average price is six cents cheaper than a month ago ($3.59), but 78 cents cheaper than a year ago ($4.31).
“The oil market volatility is leading to lower prices,” said Robert Sinclair Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “We are also in a pre-summer driving season lull regarding domestic demand. These two factors should keep pump prices drifting lower for now.”
The average gas price dropped all around the region. Pennsylvania drivers saw the largest decrease – four cents – to today’s average of $3.69 (3.73). Connecticut’s average gas price dropped three cents to $3.54 ($3.57), and New York drivers saw a two-cent decrease to $3.68 ($3.70).
