Wayne, N.J., May 30, 2023 — New Jersey’s average gas price jumped 11 cents this week to $3.54 ($3.43). Today’s average price is six cents higher than a month ago ($3.48), but down significantly from the $4.76 that Garden State drivers were paying a year ago.
AAA Northeast’s May 30th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $3.57, up three cents from last week ($3.54). The national average gas price is four cents cheaper than a month ago ($3.61), but $1.04 cheaper than a year ago ($4.61).
“The seasonal surge in gasoline demand leading into the long holiday weekend resulted in the national average rising to $3.57,” said Robert Sinclair Jr., Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “The rise in demand for oil and gasoline is helping push pump prices higher for now.
