As 37 million drivers return home from Memorial Day road trips, statewide and national gas prices are on the increase, says AAA Northeast.
Today’s statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.65, 10 cents higher than last week and $1.03 lower than last year.
On the national level, today’s $3.58 average is 4 cents higher than last week and $1.04 less than last year.
“The recent rise in holiday demand pushed pump prices higher,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “Now that we’re past the holiday, pump prices could possibly stabilize or drop depending upon driver behavior. But only time will tell,” said Mayko
