Although the national gas price average continues to slowly increase, Connecticut’s average price remains the same as last week.
Today’s Connecticut average is $1.96. The price, however, is 4 cents higher compared to last month; and $1 cheaper than this time last year.
On the national level, today’s average price of $1.98 is 2 cents higher than last week, 20 cents higher than last month, but 84 cents lower than last year.
“Americans are slowly but steadily returning to driving, which in turn is prompting prices to increase nationwide,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “The good news, however, is gas is still cheap and motorists can fill their tanks for $2 a gallon or less at 70% of the gas stations across the country.”
Higher demand and higher crude prices are pushing up prices at the pump.
