Wayne, N.J., June 15, 2020 —New Jersey’s average gas price rose three cents from last week to today’s average of $2.09 ($2.06). Today’s price is nine cents more expensive than a month ago ($2.00) and 69 cents cheaper than June 15, 2019 ($2.78). New Jersey’s average gas price is one cent cheaper than the national average.
AAA Northeast’s June 15th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $2.10, up seven cents from last week ($2.03). Today’s national average price is 24 cents more than a month ago ($1.86), and 59 cents cheaper than this day last year ($2.69).
“As Americans drive more, they are boosting gasoline demand, and that increased demand is generally lifting pump prices,” said Robert Sinclair, Manager of Media Relations for AAA Northeast. “Higher demand will continue to push up gas prices in the coming weeks, but the numbers aren’t going to spike as high as they typically do in summer. That’s because demand won’t be sufficient enough to drive down stock levels, and we have a robust supply right now.”
The average gas price is up in neighboring states as well. The average price for a gallon of gas in Connecticut is $2.07, up six cents from last week ($2.01). New York drivers are paying $2.21, one cent more than a week ago ($2.20). In Pennsylvania, motorists are paying an average of $2.31, up five cents from a week ago ($2.26). Hawaii has the highest average for a gallon of gas, at $3.18/gallon, while Mississippi has the cheapest at $1.74.
