Wayne, N.J., July 27, 2020 — New Jersey’s average gas price held steady at $2.19 this week. Today’s price is three cents more expensive than a month ago ($2.16) and 60 cents cheaper than July 27, 2019 ($2.79). New Jersey’s average gas price is one cent higher than the national average.
AAA Northeast’s July 27th survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be $2.18, down a penny from last week ($2.19). Today’s national average price is one cent more than a month ago ($2.17), and 56 cents cheaper than this day last year ($2.74).
“As COVID-19 case numbers surpass 4 million, demand for gasoline is weakening across the country,” said Robert Sinclair Jr., Manager of Media Relations for AAA Northeast. “The latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) demand reading measures at 8.5 million barrels per day, which is about 11% less than a year ago. Gas prices are likely to fluctuate throughout the rest of the summer due to COVID-19 concerns.”
The average gas price also held steady at $2.20 and $2.26 in Connecticut and New York, respectively. The average gas price decreased by a penny in Pennsylvania to $2.42 ($2.43). Hawaii has the highest average for a gallon of gas, at $3.22/gallon, while Mississippi has the cheapest at $1.83/gallon.
