Providence, R.I., February 22, 2021 — Rhode Island’s average gas price is up nine cents from last week ($2.46), averaging $2.55 per gallon. Today’s price is 19 cents higher than a month ago ($2.36) and 8 cents higher than February 22, 2020 ($2.47). Rhode Island’s average gas price is 8 cents lower than the national average.
“When close to 40% of U.S. crude production is offline because refineries are closed, there is going to be pain at the pump until operations resume,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast. “The good news is the nearly two dozen impacted refiners are expected to restart operations this week, if they haven’t already.”
AAA Northeast’s February 22 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 13 cents higher than last week ($2.50), averaging $2.63 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 24 cents higher than a month ago ($2.39), and 16 cents higher than this day last year ($2.47).
