Beware of the Ides of March for the day portends a jump at the pump!
Today’s average gas price for a gallon of self-serve, regular in Connecticut today is $2.88, 8 cents higher than this time last week; and 45 cents higher than this time last year.
On the national level, the average price is $2.86, 9 cents higher than last week and 59 cents higher than last year.
“Higher crude oil prices, tighter supplies, and higher demand continue to drive jumps at the pumps,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “On average, Americans are paying 14% more to fill-up in this month compared to February.”
There is good news on the horizon, however, said Mayko. “The price of crude, which accounts for more than half the price of gas at the pump, is showing signs of stability,” she added. “If crude prices continue to fluctuate between $64 and $66, it’s likely price jumps won’t be as substantial in April.”
