Although prices at the pump throughout the country continue to fluctuate, Connecticut gas prices appear to have stabilized, AAA Northeast said today.
Today’s average gas price for a gallon of self-serve, regular in Connecticut is $2.89, the same as last week and 80 cents higher than this time last year.
On the national level, the $2.87 average price is a penny higher than last week and 93 cents higher than last year.
“We expect demand nationwide will continue to increase as vaccinations become more widely available, states loosen pandemic restrictions and the weather becomes warmer,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman.
One factor that is keepings the national gas price average below $3 a gallon is the stabilizing price of crude, she added. Crude accounts for about 60% of the price at the pump.
After hitting a 12-month high of $66 a barrel last month, crude has hovered around the $60 mark in recent days. “If it stays low, even as demand increases, there will be less frequent price jumps at the pump,” Mayko added.
