Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are up two cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s January 6 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.54 per gallon. Massachusetts’s price is 4 cents below the national average of $2.58. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was 5 cents lower at $2.49 per gallon.

“Crude oil prices are moving higher following the death of Iran’s top military leader, and was to be expected,” said Mary Maguire, Director, Public and Legislative Affairs. “The long-term impact to consumers at the pump will be dependent on how expensive crude oil prices become and the duration of any increase.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 73 cents, from a low of $2.32 to a high of $3.05. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Please remember to slow down and move over for any emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
