Wayne, N.J., July 11, 2022 — The average price for a gallon of gas in New Jersey dropped 11 cents from last week to today’s price of $4.71 ($4.82). The average price is It’s now 34 cents cheaper than a month ago ($5.05), but still $1.55 higher than on July 11, 2021 ($3.16). New Jersey’s statewide average is four cents higher than the national average of $4.67.
The national average for a gallon of gasoline fell to $4.67, down 13 cents over the past week ($4.80). The decrease in the average for a gallon of gas occurred despite a slight rise in demand, likely due to robust July 4th holiday automobile travel. AAA forecasted that 42 million people would hit the roads for the holiday weekend, a new record.
“Usually, more people buying gas would lead to higher pump prices,” said Robert Sinclair, Senior Manager of Public Affairs for AAA Northeast. “But the price for oil, the main ingredient in gasoline, has fallen and is hovering around $100 a barrel. Less expensive oil usually means less expensive gas.”
Average gas prices are down across the region as well. Connecticut motorists are seeing an average gas price of $4.63, a drop of 14 cents from a week ago ($4.77). Pennsylvania drivers are paying an average of $4.78, an 11-cent drop from last week ($4.89). And in New York, the average gas price is $4.80, down nine cents from a week ago ($4.89).
